Gramp's Missouri Boys Class Three Basketball Ratings

Gramp's Missouri Boys Class Three Basketball Ratings -  Updated 3/20/2023

Here are the final Missouri class three boys' ratings

Updated 2/25/2023 for formula error on South Shelby, Skyline in wrong district

While my ratings held up well in class one and two boys and girls, the class three boys was up and down.  I missed in district eight where Russellville upset Stover and Warsaw but lost to favorite, Cole Camp and district fifteen, where St. Pius X upset three of my more highly rated teams to win the district title.  I suppose getting 73% of my picks right but I had 85% right in class one and two and it will only get harder to predict winners in the playoffs going forward.

I will redo the ratings early next week.  Congrats to the district winners and good luck with the rest of your season.

I guess it does not matter how the state high school league sets up your district or state tournament brackets.  YOU HAVE TO WIN THEM ALL.  It is WIN or OUT for the rest of the post-season so it wouldn't really matter if they put the top 10 teams in your district, you have to beat them all to become state champs.

So if you are the coach of Mansfield or Thayer, although you might wish you had been slotted into district 8 with Cole Camp and Windsor, you still have to beat everyone to win the title, so why not finish them off in the district final?

Maybe, but then, if the best games are in the district tournaments, how good are your final four games?  Your nail-biters were at districts and the final four games are 20-point blow-outs.  Doesn't make for a great state tournament, does it?  But at least there is some resemblance to balance in this year's class three boys tournament bracket but only by the grace of God and great talent in all parts of the state.

Besides Mansfield-Thayer district final, I expect that the district #1 game (New Madrid Central and Caruthersville) and that districts seven and eleven will also be barn-burners.  There are some great games in other districts (4, 8, 12, 13, 15, and 16) where the teams are not that strong but multiple teams have an opportunity to win districts and move on.

Good luck to all you class three teams!

Updated 2/25/2023 after finding a formula error for South Shelby

AS OF 2/9/2023

There's a lot of balance in Missouri boys class three with Charleston, New Madrid County Central and Caruthersville down in the Bootheel and a deep group in South Central Missouri with undefeated Mansfield, Thayer, Sparta, Fair Grove and Seymour and you cannot leave the WNW Missouri out with a strong Lafayette County.  Should be a fun tournament bracket to watch.

Continued success to all the class three teams.

as of 1/15/2023

Southeast Missouri bootheel is still strong with Charleston, New Madrid Central and Caruthersville in the top five.  I am sort of rooting for Caruthersville, where Grama and I received our covid vaccinations back in 2021.  We drove 200 miles each way to get two boosters in February, about two months before St. Louis received an vaccine.

Lafayette Country up in the Northwest also looks strong.  It looks like the state playoffs will be very exciting with no clear-cut favorite.

as of 12/18/2022

It's early in the season but it looks like the Southeast/Bootheel region of Missouri is packed with great class three basketball teams.  It's too soon for bragging but New Madrid Central looks strong at 5-2 with close losses to Christian Academy Louisville and Cape Girardeau Central.  Lafayette County is strong out west with a 7-1 record and just one loss to Hogan Prep.

I will repost ratings about every two weeks.

Revised 12/20/2022 to move Ash Grove to class two.

Enjoy!
